The wolf almost looks like an Alsatian. It lives in Sweden, Russia, Greece, Italy and Portugal. You can also find it in Asia and North America. There are about 250 000 wolves in the world. They are not so many any more because man has shot them.
The wolf was protected in 1966. It mostly eats moose and reindeer. They live in packs and hunt together. If you meet a wolf in the forest it might not be that friendly, maybe it will attack you.

A small wolf can kill a big moose by himself. A pack consists of a mother, father and five to six puppies, just like a dog. They dig a small lair where they live most of their time. When the puppies are small the father feeds them with the food he has hunted. Their weight is 43-45 kilos and their size vary.

In Latin the wolf is called Canis lupus.
